On Sunday, November 10, I will be performing a concert with three of my favorite colleagues – Pianist Jeffrey Brody, Guitarist Berit Strong, and Baritone Aaron Sandford.
The Park Avenue Congregational Church (PACC) Concert Series is in its 29th successful year. In fact, I have performed on this series previously in 2009, and am thrilled to be collaborating with Jeffrey Brody (www.jeffreybrody.com) again. In the German section of my concert, I will present two of Jeffrey’s original compositions from his cycle Vier Gedichte von Hermann Hesse, “Böse Zeit” and “Auf Wanderung”. I am also including two of Wagner’s Wesendonk-Lieder, “Der Engel” and “Schmerzen”
Speaking of collaboration – the fabulous Berit Strong (www.beritstrong.org) will be accompanying me on an adaptation of the Adagio from Rodrigo’s Guitar Concerto entitled “Aranjuez, ma pensee”. Berit and I performed this gorgeous piece in 2011 at First Music, the concert series at First Church Nashua, Congregational U.C.C. (just love these professional church concert series).
To continue with the collaboration theme, I have invited Baritone Aaron Sandford to join me in Brahms’s Vier Duette, Opus 28 (Four Duets), which are amusing dialogues between mezzo-soprano and baritone.
In addition to the living Jeffrey Brody, I am including songs of three other living composers – Lori Laitman, William Bolcom, and Ben Moore.
I am including two of my favorite songs from my participation in the Barcelona Festival of Song this past summer (www.barcelonafestivalofsong.com) – “Al banco solitario” by Yvette Souviron and “O menino doente” by Osvaldo Lacerda.
The concert starts at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon, November 10. Please check out this website for ticket information. I hope many of you can attend!
