Let the countdown begin!

Hello, everyone – this Saturday, will leave for Florence from Logan via Amsterdam. I am beyond excited about participating in MOS 2015 in this most fantastic part of Italy.

I have not been to Tuscany since 1989, when I studied Italian at the Michelangelo Language Institute for a full month. This part of Italy, perhaps more than any other, is filled with the most incredible churches, museums, architecture, and – yes – WINE (the town where MOS is taking place this year is called Greve-in-Chianti…Chianti wine, get it?)

Jack has assembled, as always, an amazing faculty of teachers and coaches. Yes, the lovely Nelly Miricioiu will once again be teaching, as well as Jack, and the wonderful vocal coaches, Daniele Piatelli and Giovanni Reggioli, will also be on hand. In addition, Dona D. Vaughn, a distinguished drama coach/opera director, will also be on faculty to help stage the ensembles. And the internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, Jennifer Larmore, will be on hand to give two days of master classes…I’m particularly excited about this.

I plan to “play hooky” for a couple of days to go to Venice to visit my old friend Simone Tetz and her husband Alessandro…I have not seen either of them since 2007, when I was last in Venice. Simone and Ale have found a flat for me to stay in for FREE for a couple of days, near here they live on Giudecca (one of the larger islands in the lagoon).

Thank you all for your support and for sharing in my excitement. And yes, you can count on singing LOTS of Italian rep once we resume lessons in September.

I hope you enjoy my account of this Tuscan adventure (hopefully internet connection will be reliable in the flat in Greve where I will be staying).

Ciao!

Janice
