Old Songs Resung – Janice’s Labor of Love Concert

Hello, everyone – You are cordially invited to my concert on Sunday, November 12, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957).

Many of you know that I have a passion for this composer’s vocal works. I am thrilled that my colleagues Martha Warren, Mark Andrew Cleveland, and Maxwell McGrath will be joining me for this commemorative concert. You will hear songs and arias of Korngold as well as his contemporaries Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler. I am honored to have the fabulous collaborative pianist Elizabeth Blood to accompany us all.

To mix things up a bit, you will also hear songs by my favorite contemporary American composer, Ben Moore. Max will sing “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” and I will sing two songs of Ben’s eight-song cycle based on John Keats’s Ode to a Nightingale, “Darkling, I Listen” and “Adieu”. My dear friend and student Jenny Masana will introduce these songs by reciting two of the short poems and offering some information about the poet.

The concert is at Grace Episcopal Church, 106 Lowell Street in Manchester, NH and begins at 3:00 pm. Lots of free parking adjacent to the church.

General admission is $10, $8 for seniors/students.

I hope to see many of you there, and thank you for your support.
